Metabo has come out with some interesting new 18V cordless power tools recently, and here we have a compelling new brushless oscillating multi-tool.
In case you are unfamiliar with this type of tool, it can be used for a wide range of cutting, scraping, grinding, and sanding tasks. The short intro video (embedded below) is a good display of popular application examples.
Bosch and Fein’s Starlock interface has been around for some time, and it’s good to see new compatible tools outside those two brands.
One thing to be aware of is that Starlock tools can only be used with like-styles of Starlock blades, or smaller, meaning you can only use Starlock Plus and Starlock blades with this tool. A heavier duty tool would be needed to work with Starlock Max blades.
I would also remind you that Starlock accessories are backwards-compatible with older non-Starlock blade interfaces.
Metabo shows off the new oscillating multi-tool with a compact 4Ah battery, a pairing I would agree with.

That depth guide looks neat – at least for the type of purpose they show in the video. Anything similar out there for my Dewalt XR OMT?
Stuart
Yes, but if it didn’t come with your tool, and your tool is compatible (should be?), it looks like you have to piece it together using replacement part SKUs.
Jared
Thanks! I’ll look it up.
I see it now in the photos for the Dewalt OMT kit – but mine definitely didn’t come with one. I bought the bare tool four or five years ago, so maybe it was one included post one of the updates they’ve had since then.
Stuart
You might have one somewhere.

The DCS355 originally launched with the removable tool guide. Only in recent 1-battery holiday special promo kits was it not included, and those special buys didn’t exist 5 years ago. Maybe it was not included with the bare tool? Product listings are ambiguous on this.
Jared
Well now you’ve got me wondering! Now that I know what it looks like, guess I better go scour the shop before I pull out the credit card – but I still don’t recall seeing it before. Thanks Stuart
Stuart
I’ve done that before, and thought it was worth mentioning before you drive yourself crazy trying to find the accessory SKU or parts package.

Stuart is right. I realized my baretool didn’t come with it either a couple of years ago after seeing photos of it included with the kit version.
After emailing Dewalt, they asked for a photo of my tool’s serial # then promptly mailed me one. Give that a shot.

You’re looking for part numbers 42,43, and 44 (and 45 if you lack a 2.5mm hex wrench) here: https://www.ereplacementparts.com/dewalt-dcs355d1-type-20v-oscillating-multitool-parts-c-1009_2641_456235.html
Total before shipping is $16.19 w/o the wrench. I have two DCS355 OMTs, one was purchased as a bare tool and didn’t come with the guide while the other was part of a 2-battery kit with the guide and accessory kit.

That is really cool – and now I want one for the new M12.

Sorry, I just can’t get past the name. Never going to own a Metabo. Sounds like the name of a moron in a Stephen King flick. Never ceases to amaze me when marketers go from decent/bad to worse!

I think you’re confused. This is made by the right proper German tool brand Metabo (Metabowerke GmbH). This isn’t Metabo HPT (Hitachi).
John
What’s wrong with the name, seems petty. They do make high quality tools far more known in Europe.
“Metabowerke GmbH with its headquarters in Nürtingen, Germany is a manufacturer of high quality power tools for professional users. The company was founded in the 1920s and got its name from a hand drill, the so-called “Metallbohrdreher”. Today, Metabo offers a wide range of power tools.”

I don’t mind Metabo, but I thought “Constamatic” was a little hokey for a fairly common feature.
Mark
Ive heard of much worse than Metabo, besides they’ve been around a long time.
Make alot of best in class tools

I have to say, I’m still baffled by OMT blade mounts. So there really isn’t one blade standard that will fit any tool? Or maybe more to the point, just by eyeballing it, it looks like a tool with Starlock Plus could accept any of the three blades. So why don’t they make all OMTs with Starlock Plus? What am I missing?
Vards Uzvards
StarlockMax tool (e.g. Bosch GOP55) will accept all three kinds of blades. I was not searching hard for StarlockMax blades, but it looks like Starlock and StarlockPlus blades are much more prevalent.

I never thought twice about having a dust port attachment until seeing this. I quickly searched if one is available for my Dewalt and found nothing. What a bummer.
Jake
Metabo I think Looks identical to the Parkside brand from Lidl
