Rog
It should be illegal for Dewalt to still be selling that DCD771C2 kit in this the year 2023.
Also, anyone who purchases it should be thrown right in jail.
MFC
Lol, it really should be about $50 at most.
Stuart
I cringe every time I see mass media sites promote that as a hot deal.
Big Richard
The crazy thing is the reviews, people gush over it. It’s got 4.8 stars and it says 10k+ have been sold in the last month. It is like printing money, DeWalt won’t drop this as long as it is bringing in that cheddar.
BigTimeTommy
What’s a better drill and battery combo from a “reputable brand” for someone who rarely uses tools? This is a great drill to buy a useless family member who arbitrarily wants to be gifted tools around the holidays even though they can’t make use of them. “Oh I’ve seen construction people use these yellow brand drills, must be a good one thanks for the gift.” Perfect.
Stuart
The latest Atomic drill/driver is $99.
https://toolguyd.com/dewalt-atomic-cordless-drills-dcd794-dcd799/
DCD771C2 – 300 UWO, 0-450/0-1500 RPM, 2x 1.3Ah batteries.
DCD794D1 – 404 UWO 0-450/0-1650 RPM, 1x 2Ah battery
The first Atomic series drill, DCD708, was advertised as being 25% more compact than the DCD771. I can’t find length specs for the DCD771, but the DCD708 has a 6.3″ head length and the DCD794 5.88″.
Working backwards, depending on how Dewalt did the math, the DCD771 is at least ~2″ longer than the DCD794.
Why buy the brushed motor DCD771 kit over the Atomic DCD794 kit? If you’re not a fan of the Atomic series, there’s also the DCD777D1. It’s now kitted with 1x 2Ah battery instead of 2x 1.3Ah or 1.5Ah.
BigTimeTommy
Yeah good point I’d rather get that one when the prices are the same, no-brainer. None of those specs matter at all to the person I was describing and both drills would seem the same to them. But when they’re both the same price I’d default to the better choice.
Stuart
I disagree.
If you put the two side by side, and point out the Atomic is faster, more powerful, more compact, built with a brushless motor instead of brushed, and has a better battery, nobody would choose the DCD771.
The reason the DCD771 sells so well is because it has a high review count on Amazon and regularly tops the bestsellers list. Its popularity is what continues to sell the tool, and why mass media “shopping experts” keep recommending it so enthusiastically.
Koko The Talking Ape
Well, if he uses the tool as little as you say, but even if he uses it more, and if he never compares it to a better tool either by specs or by actual use, then it really doesn’t matter.
That actually makes him an easy person to buy gifts for. My mother is like that. She’s happy with any pretty piece of jewelry. Takes me five minutes to get her something.
But my girlfriend had a real issue finding something for me, because she knows I know a lot about the few things that interest me. So I had to make a gift list for her. Result: I have some really top-of-the-line hand tools. Win-win!
Big Richard
Don’t forget the 777’s kinda sorta upgrade, the DCD793. Also $99 for the D1 kit – https://www.lowes.com/pd/DEWALT/5014148635
It is basically the gen I Atomic drill skin, but with the gen II motor.
BigTimeTommy
Stuart I understand that the 771 objectively sucks, no one should buy it, and it’s popular because internet marketing is one big ridiculous scam. You’re totally missing the point I’m making (maybe purposefully, hard to tell) but that’s fine. Sometimes the cheap bad tool is the right one to buy. I’ve saved myself a lot of unpaid labor by gifting underpowered tools to friends and family with underpowered brains.
TomD
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M18-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-Cordless-1-2-in-Compact-Drill-Driver-with-1-2-0-Ah-Battery-Charger-and-Tool-Bag-2801-21P/305529238 would be decent, but for a single tool I’d personally probably go a bit higher to the Surge.
For a literal wall warrior who just wants to display it and never use it, whatever is cheapest is fine.
IronWood
Looks like the DeWalt 5Ah 2-pack is now down to $125, pretty good deal on my favorite 20V batteries.
As always, thanks for gathering these up for us, Stuart!!
MFC
Beat me to it. Ha, feel free to delete the other one Stuart, and this comment too. 😉
Stuart
Thank you both!!
This is the exact reason why I try to avoid including prices for most special Amazon sale deals – prices can fluctuate way too much on certain items.
John
Great thanks for posting those, the BOSCH GSS18V-40N 18V Brushless Sheet Orbital Finishing Sander (Bare Tool) has a sizable sale price cut from usual $169 to $109 currently. That price hasn’t moved once since its intro in March starting on camelcamelcamel. I paid full price and have no regrets for such a great sander.
IronWood
Don’t you just hate when somebody posts what you’re typing while you’re typing it? 😂 Great minds think alike and all…
MFC
Dewalt 2x5ah is now $125.
Robert
Now, 900 on the East Coast time, it’s showing $145.37
MFC
And now back down to $132. Like Stuart said, the prices certainly do fluctuate. These actually seem to have a lot of people claiming counterfeit batteries are sent. I couldn’t tell from the photos, but it’s possible. Also, I actually found clamshell sealed Dewalt 5ah batteries on ebay for $50 so $125+ isn’t that great after all.
Shane
Those Craftsmen reversible wrenches are awesome. They look good and perform great. The holder is a little bulky but it’s well made. Easy in and out and very secure. I may pick up the metric set
Adam
Does Amazon make all it’s sales losses up with the revenue made from all the “sponsored” product items sprinkled in through an easily defined search?
Example: I click on the Wera link, and every other product is non-Wera, but some “sponsored” POS.
Stuart
Yes, and no. Their search always does that. Some other retailers do the same, Amazon just seems to do it a bit more.
That’s also why the deal sections are so cluttered – I’ve been told a lot of those are paid placements which Amazon has no control over.
I asked Wera for links to their Black Friday deal pages, and they were incredibly unhelpful, and so I didn’t bother asking this time. I couldn’t find the deal page for Prime Day either, so I just added a filtered search that shows the Wera sale items, figuring it was better than nothing.
hon cho
Amazon doesn’t suffer “losses” on the price reductions. They squeeze manufacturers and distributors for price reductions for a big promotion such as Prime Day. Similarly, when you return something, Amazon claims a credit for the returned item and while they may suffer expenses related to the sale and retun of the item, they generally don’t suffer expense on the returned item itself (unless it’s an Amazon brand).
Yes, the sponsored items give them additional revenue opportunities. Personally, I find nom-matching reaponses to search queries to be irritating.
TomD
Exactly. If you’re selling on Amazon you can check a box to be included in Prime Day™ and the cash you get from a sale is lowered, but the number of sales goes through the roof.
Which is why so much of the prime day stuff is random NONAME brands from China, heh.
Potato
Companies pay Amazon to bump their search results, so Amazon double dips from both taking a cut of the sale as well as the what companies pay to appear higher than they otherwise would in search results. Amazon have zero incentive to change this, and it’s why Amazon search blows for consumers,
Tom
There’s actually a bunch of discounts on Festool accessories.
Also Rikon M1 measuring tool is at $119
Derek
The Knipex Cobra 10″ were “50%” off. I guess they’re normally 48% off since it was just $1 cheaper than the price it’s been at for the last 3 weeks.
Mike
Really do need to do a little research before jumping. A few things that caught my eye all ended up not really being much of a deal. CamelCamelCamel.com is great for checking to see if things are actually a deal or just hype.
fred
Acme and Amazon are both doing a $50 off $200 for selected Bosch Tools.
I had an eye on a Bosch 12Ah 18V battery that qualifies. Amazon has it for $199.99 so it just misses the threshold. Acme has it for $219 so it drops to $169 – but then you need to add something else to get free shipping.
John
The newest Bosch 12V and 18V 5″ ROS and 1/3 sheet sanders are on sale. I have all 4 that I’ve been trying out for a few months. These are some of the best sanders on the market for price, size, smoothness. I think these fly under the radar but more people need to know about them. I have almost 2 dozen sanders, Festool, Bosch, Makita, 3M, Dewalt, Milwaukee etc. The most enjoyable sanders are these Bosch cordless. The Bosch sheet cordless has 3 pads for delta, 1/4 and actually a matching (1/3’ish) sheet size pad to Festool papers for the RTS/LS130 sanders.
Stuart
The Bosch sanders are tricky. Lowe’s had the 12V sander for $99 with a free starter kit, but it disappeared after running for a couple of months.
The Amazon deal price of $70 is good, but as good as $99 with battery and charger?
I’ll add it in and let everyone decide for themselves – thanks!
Mike
I scored a deal last winter on the 5″ 18v. 90 bucks for the starter kit plus 11% rebate from Mendards. Great sander, highly recommend.
Tom
The 12V sale is also on clearance at my local Lowe’s stores. I’m waiting for prices to keep dropping as the inventory ages. I already have a corded sander, but I wouldn’t mind having a cordless option if the price is right. I would swing by your local store to see if you can score an even better deal vs. the Amazon pricing
Bill Clay
The Bosch GLL3-330CG Laser is on Prime Day sale for ~$305, this is a great device (I bought one last year) and at the lowest price I’ve ever seen.
Rob G Mann
Thanks for the links. I snagged a Jet lathe I’ve been considering a while.
Jared
The Dewalt 20V Max USB-C Charger is also on special in Canada. I’m trying to decide if I “need” it.
Could I charge a Dewalt battery from a vehicle if I had the Dewalt charger and a USB-C charger for my truck?
Doug N
Yes, that’s the best feature. I use it for road trips; let’s me charge while driving and use the power when parked.
Jared
Thanks Doug. I think that puts me over the edge.
Yadda
Looks like the Dewalt TStak Rolling Tool Box – $46.90 promo has ended.
Stuart
Thank you, I updated the post.
It’s worth checking back – sometimes inventory levels fluctuate and items that sell out return later in the day or again on the second day.
Albert
Bosch folding router table RA1141 is $140. Not sure if it is any good.
AC
this is a good one. Bosch brushless flexi click with a multitool as a bonus and two batteries and charger $149
https://www.amazon.com/GXL12V-270B22-Chameleon-Flexiclick®-Oscillating-Multi-Tool/dp/B09VWMBN4V/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2SV32IO4PI9N4&keywords=bosch+chameleon&qid=1689110822&sprefix=bosch+chameleon%2Caps%2C127&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

Snagged some 3M worktunes for $40.
https://www.amazon.com/3M-WorkTunes-Protector-Bluetooth-Technology/dp/B0723CYHPZ/
These are really great, but I let my kids borrow the last pair and it got lost while traveling.
A W
Now down to $32.00. that’s a really good deal.
Ray
If you’re looking for a 58-gallon diesel tank with an electric transfer pump, this one looks to be a fantastic deal at $494.60 after the 20% Prime discount and an additional $100 coupon. I don’t have this model, but it looks like a lot of other diesel tanks that are meant to be easily moved via forks.
As much as I want this, I’m gonna have to pass and keep using my 5x5gal cans. If you get it please let us know how it is.
VEVOR Portable Diesel Tank, 58 Gallon Capacity, Diesel Fuel Tank with 12V Electric Transfer Pump, Polyethylene Diesel Transfer Tank for Easy Fuel Transportation, Black
https://www.amazon.com/VEVOR-Diesel-Tank-Transportation-Black/dp/B0BM3HPRT2
Thanks for posting all these deals, Stuart! I picked up the California Air compressor at $98 using your referral code. We appreciate you!
Stuart
Thanks, glad to help!
I’ve had to tell myself 20 times that I don’t need another 1-gallon air compressor.
Apparently the price on the California Air Tools dropped to $93.10 (at least as of the time of this comment). They’re making it awfully hard to turn down.
As for the Vevor tools, I saw a couple of their tools and equipment on sale, but didn’t include any of them because of the user reviews and reader feedback here – https://toolguyd.com/vevor-tools/ .
Boras
Thanks for all the guidance, I wish I found your site sooner, but better late than never. Picked up a few items from Amazon and Acme, notably some Dewalt 20v batteries in a few configurations.
Also there is great information in some of the comments, thanks to all of you too.
MichaelT
The ToughBuilt sawhorse C500 two pack is $59.99 at Tractor Supply –
https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/toughbuilt-2-pack-c500-sawhorse-jobsite-tables-tb-c500-2-1499874
Stuart
Plus $18.99 shipping.
Amazon’s price isn’t the lowest, but I haven’t seen better “shipped” pricing.
$59.99 is a great price if you have a Tractor Supply nearby for in-store pickup.
