Amazon has a LOT of tool deals for Prime Day 2023. Here are the 20 most popular ones based on what readers have been buying.
A couple of deals that are no longer available are not included.
As a reminder, Amazon’s Prime Day deals end at 3am ET 7/13/23 unless supplies sell out sooner. For most of the deals, you must be a Prime subscriber to take advantage of the sale pricing.

New Deal – Streamlight Stylus Pro Flashlight
This is NOT one of the bestselling deals – but it could be. This is a new Day 2 deal, where you get the Stylus Pro in black for under $18.
The Stylus Pro is a great 2AA pocket light. If you’re not a fan of the color, you can get the blue or silver for close to $20.
Fluke ST120+ Outlet Tester
I suppose there’s no surprise that this Fluke outlet tester (with GFCI testing function) is selling so well. I bought one too.
Knipex CoBolt Compact Bolt Cutter
Spare your wire cutters and use this to cut hard wires, small machine screws, and more.
Do I need one? Probably not – I have an older competing model that’s still functional – but am strongly considering it. That should be Amazon’s Prime Day’s motto.
Craftsman V-Series Metric Ratcheting Wrench Set
I love the size, shape, feel, and storage case of these premium Craftsman wrenches. I bought a set for myself two weeks ago and rebought them at the lower price (thank goodness for Amazon’s free returns on most products).

Hultafors Chisel Knife
While not quite as appealing, in my opinion, as the Mora (see it here), this one’s half the price. It’s half knife, half chisel, with overly positive user reviews.
Craftsman V-Series SAE Ratcheting Wrench Set
For completists, or those who work with inch fasteners as often as metric – or more – the SAE set is also on sale.
I’m a big fan of Craftsman V-Series tools. If you’ve tried them, would you agree?
Streamlight Dualie 3AA LED Flashlight
From what I’ve seen, the average person has two kinds of flashlights – the one built into their cell phones, and old and junky cheapies that never work right when they need them to.
I picked up the Dualie for my household, and then made sure to send more to family members.
It has a spot light, a side-aiming flood light, and intrinsically safe industrial body.
Streamlight’s reliability has kept me as a loyal customer for years.
3M P100 Bayonet-Mount Respirator Filters
I’m a bit surprised that this is high on the top-25 list, but perhaps shouldn’t be. Amazon has quite a few Prime Day deals on PPE gear and accessories.
If you’ve got to buy some consumables, such as respirator cartridges, why not stock up when they’re discounted.
Personally, I’m also looking at the new style of 3M face masks with clip-in cartridges but might make the opportunity to get a few of these bayonet-style cartridges as well.
California Air Tools Quiet 1-Gallon Air Compressor
I don’t need it, I don’t need it, I don’t need it.
But I could use it, and at this price…
Somehow the price went down compared to yesterday, not that I’m complaining. If you ordered one at the higher price, either try a rebuy-return or chat with Amazon customer service and ask for a $5 credit.
Dewalt Safety Glasses
I have to wear over-the-glasses goggles. If not for that, I’d buy a few of these Dewalt safety glasses at this price too.
Bosch Self-Centering Drill Bit Set
These are convenient for drilling perfectly aligned hinge holes and similar. Seems like a good buy.
Gearwrench 77pc Tap and Die Set
This is a good price in a popular portable tap and die set.
Kasa Smart Outlet 2-Pack
I have been using Kasa smart outlets for two years, for use with things like seasonal grow lights and fans (I grow hot peppers indoors for months before they go outside), and they’ve been trouble-free.
Flexzilla 5/8″ x 75′ Garden Hose
I’m a fan of Flexzilla garden hoses. They get really dirty and gross if you leave them outside year-round, but their functionality has never been impaired. The swiveling end connection handle is a great feature I wish all hoses came with.
3M WorkTunes Hearing Protection with Bluetooth
This seems like a great price for Bluetooth-capable 3M-branded hearing protectors. No wonder they’re selling so well.
Wen Combination Benchtop Sander
This looks to be a great deal on what seems to be a well-regarded hobby-grade benchtop sander.
There’s plenty of competition, but none of the others come anywhere close to this price.
Gearwrench 7pc Pick Set
These are good, strong picks.
ToughBuilt Fastener Bags
These ToughBuilt zippered bags are a step above other brands’, thanks to their see-through mesh windows and quick-carry handles.
Hold on.
I ordered another 3-pack for myself. The savings are modest, but money saved is money saved, and I already know what I’ll use these for.
Estwing 3 Pound Drilling Hammer
Anyone need a new mini sledge?
Klein 14-in-1 Multi-Bit Screwdriver
What’s neat about this one is you can remove the shaft for use in a cordless drill or impact driver.
Dewalt USB-C Charger
You can charge Dewalt 20V Max batteries via USB-C, or use the adapter to charge your electronic devices.

Not a huge deal but Tajima drywall rasps were our guys’ favorites – so 20% off seems decent:

Stuart
Here’s the Tajima – https://www.amazon.com/TAJIMA-Drywall-Rasp-Bi-Directional-Handle/dp/B003O684VY/?tag=toolguyd-20 .
The question is, does the other one come from the same factory, or is it a knockoff?
fred
Mea Culpa – sure looks like a knockoff

What is the use case for a drywall rasp? The picture of stacks of drywall turning into a basement of hung drywall actually hurt more than it helped.

I’m considering buying the V-series metric wrench set from Amazon USA even though I live in Canada.
…but why does it jump from 14mm to 17mm?! And if it’s going to skip, why include an 11mm?! Give me a 19mm over an 18mm too, for what it’s worth.
I might still do it and fill it out later. Are the V-series wrenches sold individually?
Mixing and matching doesn’t bother me much, so I might go for it anyway. I even once made a wrench set from 6mm to 19mm with no wrench the same – just because I wanted to see what different brands and styles felt like. I still use that “set” sometimes.
Shane
You won’t be sorry. My only complaint with them(reversibles) is that they do not have a stop ring to keep the wrench for sliding down the bolt. They feel good in the hand and get it done.
Mike
Would you consider writing a column on growing peppers? I’ve been toying with the idea, mostly for hot sauces. Thanks!
Stuart
Do you have any specific questions?
It’s too late in the season for me to do a “start to finish” guide, since I have’t taken photos of different steps this year or last, but I can try to provide enough for a starting point. There are also a lot of good resources already.
There are three major stages, each with multiple things to learn. Starting seeds and growing seeds indoors, since much of the USA doesn’t have long enough growing seasons, growing outdoors, and turning peppers into hot sauce.
Luckily, everything is time-separated, so you can focus on things differently.
Stan_Dupp
Wait you make hot sauce too how did I miss this. Favorite website became favoritererr website. Do you sell it I’m so intrigued.
Stuart
No, just for me.
I wanted to grow cucumbers to make pickles, and hot peppers sounded good too.
This is my fourth season.

I think the Dewalt 1-3/4 hp fixed base corded router for $89 is one of the best deals. That’s a classic workhorse shop router for most midsize 1/2” shank router bits.

Regarding the Fluke ST120+ Outlet Tester.
I think this officially answer the question about which way outlets should be installed. It’s clearly ground down, otherwise this would be upside down and hard to read 🙂
Stuart
It depends on the usage environment.
My understanding is that outlets are installed ground-up to avoid the potential for a short due to something falling across a loose plug with exposed hot and neutral prongs.
Outlets are generally installed ground-down unless ground-up is explicitly requested or specified.
Funda
At our house, the orientation is one way if the outlets are on a switch and the other way if they are always hot
Ryan
After doing low voltage/automation work on houses for a few years, I noticed that the ones upside down usually were ‘half hots’ where they split one plug hot and one switched.
Fully hot is mounted normal and fully switched typically is normal but sometimes upside down.
I only saw a few older track homes with a plug upside down, never on custom homes

Dewalt 4 gallon shop vac is currently $77:

thanks for the info, stu.
im kinda done buying tools, retired, but, 10 simolians for that fluke outlet tester, ordered last night.
thx.

Both of the Craftsman ratcheting wrench sets are still on sale at $68. I want some of those racks, empty, to use with wrenches I’ve already got!
Stuart
They went on sale maybe 2 days before Prime Day. There are a bunch of other tools like that, where they went on sale and were featured as Prime Day deals, but it was impossible to tell if they would end with Prime Day or extend a little further.
